Places to Go in Dominica:
Towns, Parks & Landmarks
Dominica is a small island, 47 km long and 26 km wide, but the geography is unusually compressed. You move from cruise port to rainforest to crater lake to Atlantic surf coast inside an hour's drive. ## Quick orientation
Dominica's main road is the western coastal highway running north-south from Portsmouth to Roseau to Soufriere and Scotts Head. Most accommodation, dive shops and the cruise port are along this leeward coast. The interior is dominated by Morne Trois Pitons National Park (UNESCO-listed) and the volcanic spine that runs the length of the island. The east coast is wetter, wilder, less developed, and home to the Kalinago Territory.
If you only have a few days, base yourself in or near Roseau and explore the central interior. With a week, add a couple of nights in the north (Portsmouth/Calibishie area). With more time, the east coast and Soufriere region in the south reward the extra travel.
