Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 May 2026

This policy describes how Nature Island (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use this website. It is a general summary for visitors; it is not tailored legal advice. If you need certainty for your situation, consult a qualified professional.

Who we are

This site publishes travel and destination information about Dominica. The public website is operated in connection with the project branding Nature Island. Contact details for privacy-related questions should match those shown on our Contact page when available.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we or our service providers may process:

  • Technical and usage data such as pages viewed, approximate region, device type, and referrer when you browse (typically when optional analytics are enabled—see Cookies).
  • Identifiers needed to provide certain features. For example, trip planner and favorites features use a first-party identifier stored in a cookie so your browser session can be recognised securely when you use those tools.
  • Content you submit when you use interactive features (for example, planner or chat flows tied to a trip), as needed to provide those features.

We do not use this policy to override anything stated in a specific program’s terms (for example, an affiliate network’s publisher agreement).

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage on your device for the purposes below.

Strictly necessary / functional

Some cookies are needed for the site to work as you expect. For example:

  • ni_visitor_id — a first-party cookie set when you use features that need to recognise your browser across requests (such as Plan Your Trip / planner and favorites). It is HttpOnly (not readable by page scripts), scoped to our site, and used to support those features.

These are not used for optional analytics or advertising by default.

Optional cookies (your choice)

If you accept optional cookies in our cookie banner, we may load third-party scripts that can set their own cookies or read identifiers in line with their policies:

  • Google tag (Google) — when configured (PUBLIC_GOOGLE_TAG_ID), used for measurement and related functionality as described by Google.
  • GetYourGuide partner widget — when configured (PUBLIC_GETYOURGUIDE_PARTNER_ID), used to show partner content and may involve commission tracking as described by GetYourGuide.

If you reject optional cookies, those scripts are not loaded on that visit (subject to the limitations below).

Changing your mind

You can reopen Cookie settings from the site footer to update your choice. If you previously accepted optional cookies, revoking consent stops new loads of those scripts; third-party cookies already placed on your device may remain until you delete them in your browser or they expire. We do not control third-party storage after the fact.

Some pages include outbound links to third-party booking or activity providers (including partners such as GetYourGuide). We may earn a commission or referral fee when you purchase or book through those links, at no extra cost to you. Availability and pricing are set by the provider.

Affiliate relationships do not change our editorial standards, but you should assume we may be compensated when you use partner links. Partner sites have their own privacy notices and terms.

Third-party services

When optional scripts are enabled, data may be processed by providers such as Google and GetYourGuide under their respective policies. We encourage you to read those policies if you accept optional cookies.

Data retention

Retention depends on the feature and provider. Server-side data tied to planner or similar features is retained only as long as needed to operate those features and as required by law. Analytics and partner tools follow the retention settings and policies of those providers.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal data, and to object to certain uses. To exercise rights that apply to data we control directly, contact us using the details on the Contact page. We may need to verify your request where permitted by law.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

International visitors

If you access the site from outside Dominica, your information may be processed in countries with different data-protection laws.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The Last updated date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you acknowledge the updated policy.
